COS's Wait List Policy as found in the schedule:

Wait Lists for “Closed” Classes

When a class fills to capacity, it is considered “closed.” A computerized wait-list will be established to determine in which sequence students may be added to the class if space becomes available.

To add a “closed” class, a student must register in the Admissions & Records Office to have their name added to the wait list and attend the first class meeting. At the first class meeting, the instructor will determine if wait-list students may be added to the class. If so, the instructor will initial the “ADD” portion of the Enrollment/Registration form or Add/Drop form. Students may not register for the wait list after classes have begun.

The student must take the Add/Drop form to the Admissions & Records Office. Students who do not attend the first class meeting can be dropped from the wait list by the instructor or denied admittance.

Now, of course, a person not enrolled in the class cannot log into an online class, so it is impossible to attended the first class meeting, and since I'm not on campus, I can not sign and Add/Drop form.

Here is how I've modified the policy: if on the first day of class (or soon thereafter) a Wait Listed student sends me an email to dave@dabush.org requesting to add the class, I will add as many people as I can to the class by sending each person a "permission to add" email that he or she will then print and take to the Admission Office to officially add the class.  I'll do this during the first week of class.  If you send me an email before the class begins, it would be to your advantage to send me another email on the first day of the semester reminding me that you are seeking to add the class.
